Scotland (2001)

On the way up the coast by train, I did stop at St. Andrews, to get a souvenir for a friend, and also got off the train at Dundee to take a picture of Cptn Scott's exploration vessel, the RRS Discovery, that took him into the Antarctic, where he and his crew spent two winters frozen into the Antarctive ice.

A great sounding bagpiper in front of Sir Water Scott's (a poet) monument

Edinburgh Castle

There was some local event going on at the castle, and these falconeers were part of it
One of the guards at the castle. That is a very modern assault riflte he's holding

In the castle, a very nice choir I listened to, for a while

The Royal Mile starts at the Edinburgh Castle and ends at the Royal Palace
The Royal Palace is called Holyrood Palace and is open to visitors

Behind the palace is the Augustinian Holyrood Abbey ruin. The Abbey was founded in 1128 and had been repeatedly ransacked, destroyed, and restored, but itfinally collapsed in 1758.

If you hike past the palace and abbey, you will see this path leading up the hill for excellent views, which I enjoyed and made sure were in this picture

The next day I took a minibus roundtrip to the Highlands and Loch Ness (notice the sheep)

Somewhere in the Highlands is this statue, dedicated to Special Forces, and is a lone draw for tourists out here

The Loch, as you can see, changes moods in minutes
